The Elgin City Council Meeting began with public comments. The First being a Thank you to the city for the tornado response. A proclamation was made that April will be Fair Housing Month in Elgin.
There were many public comments about updating the parks in Elgin, both in person and by letter. The President of the Chamber as well as the president of Main Street Board spoke in favor of approving the city parks plan that later in the meeting was presented before the council. City Manager gave an update on The Master Parks plan and the grants that are available to begin the project. This has been in the works for 10 years with much community input.

Thomas Park will receive new signage, new parking lot and many upgrades. Elgin Memorial Park will have a new restroom facility as well as many upgrades. Veterans Memorial Park, which was built in 1920, Will be the largest of the projects. There will be sidewalks connecting Ave A, B and C. The Master Plan includes outdoor classrooms, Train themed Playscape, a Fountain Plaza with a splash pad, a skate park, a dog park, and natural play area. There will also be a Green line Cap metro connecting Elgin, Manor and Austin. Phase 1 does not include all these improvements and is funded by a $600,000 grant. Grants and funding is now being negotiated for phase 2 and completion of these improvements. It sounds like a lot of effort and hard work has been put into the planning and funding of these parks. The council was asked to approve and endorse this master plan. The motion was made and unanimously passed by the council.

The next item of new business was the right of way acquisition on Countyline Road. All parties have agreed to sell 25 front feet of their property to widen Countyline Road. This expansion is to service the new subdivisions in this area. These subdivisions are PDD, Planned Development Districts which place more infrastructure cost on the developer instead of all the cost landing on the city and taxpayers. Stone Creek Ranch is a new PDD that is also located on Countyline Rd. This will be a gated community. There are negotiations between Elgin ISD and the developer of Stone Creek Ranch for Elgin ISD to purchase 16+ or- acres from the developer for future educational purposes. The council passed modifying the agreement with the developer allowing Elgin ISD to proceed.
