A year after FBI agents raided his home and office in Laredo, U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar maintains he’s innocent of any wrongdoing. Cuellar emerged largely unscathed by the spectacle, defending his seat from a progressive candidate in the March primary and fending off a coordinated effort from Republicans to flip his district.

Millie Thompson Williams, 66, was inaugurated as second chief of the Alabama-Coushatta tribe of Texas, marking the first time a woman was elected to the post in the tribe’s over-200-year history. Williams’ new post is a lifetime appointment.

For the third straight legislative session, state Rep. Jarvis Johnson, D-Houston, is seeking to end the state holiday known as Confederate Heroes Day, which commemorates the lives of Confederate soldiers as well as leaders Jefferson Davis and Gen. Robert E. Lee.
