During a speech in Houston on Friday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis proclaimed his state as Texas’ new partner on the front lines in the battle against the political left, referring multiple times to the two states as new equals in a culture war.
The Republican Party of Texas voted Saturday to censure U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales of San Antonio, citing his support for a bipartisan gun law and his vote for a bill codifying protections for same-sex marriage. The last and only time the state party censured one of its own was in 2018.
Nate Paul, the Austin real estate investor tied to accusations of misconduct by Attorney General Ken Paxton, was ordered to serve time in jail and to pay a $180,000 fine after a Travis County judge found him in contempt of court.
As Houston ISD braces for a possible state takeover of the school district, parents, teachers and retired HISD employees rallied against the change on Friday outside of the HISD State of the Schools luncheon in downtown Houston.
