Media Release: EPD and Elgin ISD Respond to Threat toward Elgin Intermediate School – October 11, 2023, TIME: 4:30 PM CST

Elgin Independent School District employees and Elgin Police Department were made aware of a threat being circulated on social media on October 10, 2023. The threat specifically named the Elgin Intermediate School and insinuated that violence would occur on campus. The police department immediately initiated a criminal investigation. In cooperation with the school district additional staff and police officers were deployed to the campus on October 11, 2023. At approximately 9:00 AM a possible suspect was identified and located. Through further investigation it was confirmed that the juvenile suspect was the sole person responsible for the threats. The suspect was taken into custody and charged with Terroristic Threat a Class A Misdemeanor. Subsequently, the suspect was transported to the Bastrop County Juvenile Probation facility. No weapons were found, and it’s believed there is no further threat to the student body or the public.
