Frustrations mounted after yet another series of votes failed to deliver a U.S. House Speaker on Wednesday. And without a speaker of the House, Texans slated to chair some of the most influential committees this congressional session can’t take their gavels. Roughly 20 hard-line Republican members, including Texans like U.S. Rep. Chip Roy of Austin, held firm in their opposition to U.S. Rep. Kevin McCarthy as speaker.

President Joe Biden said he intends to visit the U.S.-Mexico border next week but has yet to announce where his visit will take place. He has been criticized by some Republicans for his handling of immigration and border policy and for failing to visit the region since he took office.

A district judge has rescinded a restraining order he issued earlier this week against the city of Odessa, allowing the City Council to consider terminating its two top employees. The ruling came after a local attorney filed a lawsuit against the city, alleging that Mayor Javier Joven violated his rights by not giving him and other community members a chance to speak before the council ousted the city manager and city attorney.
